When did I start working on these cushions?

June, I think it was.

And I just finished them in time for Savannah’s February birthday.

I see lots of flaws in them. But they are done, they tie on the bottom and the zipper allows them to be easily removed.

Now all we need is warm weather!

There has been a winter baby boom among my friends, with four of them giving birth within weeks of each other. That means lots of personalized blanket sewing!

First born was Logan, whose mom loves (and coaches) volleyball.

Next born were Braden and Florence, both third-borns.

On Monday my best friend quickly gave birth to her second child, a girl!

I met adorable Jamie on Monday and gently laid her on her new blanket.

Stay warm boys and girls.

And welcome to the world!

Here is a quick look at how I made my JMU inspired napkins.

Folding two yards of purple cotton fabric in half and then in half again, I cut two 16″x16″ squares.

20120925-224227.jpg

Leaving me with 8 napkins.

20120925-224304.jpg

Instead of cutting along the bias, I folded my trim fabric the same as above and cut 2″ strips until I had 512 inches of strips.

20120925-224420.jpg

I pulled the 2″ strips through my 1″ bias tape maker, pressing to hold the shape. I then folded the bias tap in half to create tons of double fold bias tape for the trim.

I cut four 16″ strips for each napkin, two of which had the ends folded under.

I pinned the bias tape in place as trim around the napkins and sewed in place.

I love them!

What do you give a good friend and JMU alum for her bridal shower?

20120922-184124.jpg

Napkin rings from here registry and homemade napkins.

I hope she and the Duke Dog she is marrying enjoy entertaining with them!

512 inches to be exact. That is how much bias tape I needed for my most recent project.

This little guy got a lot of work.

I’ve had this fabric and these notions since May.

20120910-211741.jpg

I’ve been scared to turn them into cushions, so all I’ve done is cut the cushions into circles.

Until this weekend…

I moved!

To a townhouse in the same wonderful neighborhood of Fairlington.

My new yellow room needed new curtains.

20120804-091330.jpg
I selected this white on white polka dot fabric.

20120804-091434.jpg
The curtains were simple and easy to make, with the tab top heading requiring the most attention.

20120804-091556.jpg

I love my new curtains! They are nice and bright, providing privacy while allowing the morning sunlight to pour in.

20120804-091626.jpg

Now that my curtains are finished, I am thinking of sewing a duvet cover and pillow shams, keeping with the yellow, red and white colors in the room.

I have three projects in the works.

This fabric reminds me of Alice in Wonderland and will be fun as a nursing cover for a good friend.

20120611-221225.jpg
These fabrics may look familiar, as I will be making another Sorbetto top. This time polka dotted trimmed with floral bias tape (made with my new, fun bias tape maker).

This fun mirror imaged fabric will be turned into two round cushions, for a quaint outdoor table.

Fun!

For Mother’s Day gifts, I tried my hand at embroidery.

20120513-001523.jpg

Using Martha Stewart’s Embroidery Tea Towel kits, I monogrammed two tea towels for my mom and the other moms in my life.

20120513-001721.jpg

The kits contained everything I needed (except the embroidery hoop): two tea towels, iron-on template, custom dyed thread, needle and instructions. Most of my stitches are back stitched, as it was a little hard to figure out the stem stitch and French knot from printed directions.

I am very pleased with the results!

Cs for my mom.

Rs for my nana.

20120513-002421.jpg
Ks for my aunt.
I did this set first, and you will notice a color difference due to the acorn-color thread looking more tangerine-colored on the key, oops!

Es for my boyfriend’s mom.

Not pictured are the Ms for my sister, as I gave them to her last weekend. Hopefully she will send me a photo of them in her kitchen!

Happy Mother’s Day!!

This has been quite useful in keeping fabric taut for the Mother’s Day gifts I am making.

I can’t wait to give them out on Sunday!
